The Island A-Frame is a gentle reminder that enough really is enough. Enough comfort, enough nature, enough quiet, and enough adventure to leave you feeling full instead of fried. Tucked into a wooded corner of 1 Big Sustainable Island, this cozy A-frame invites you to slow down: sleep deeply, cook simple meals, sway in a hammock, warm yourself by the woodstove, and listen as loons and crackling fires take turns filling the air.

My wife and I had a blast at the A-Frame. Kent and his team were incredibly responsive and the A-Frame is exactly what was described online. We loved the private dock and the lake was super peaceful. We needed more water at one point and Kent & Heather were at our site with water before we knew it. We would definitely return -- and we'd love to check out the Nautilus, that place looks really neat.
Beautiful island. Beautiful lake. Very responsive host and support. Thanks Kent and Heather for an amazing time.
I could write an essay on how much we enjoyed our stay at the A-frame on BSI, but I will keep it short. This is as close to a perfect airbnb experience as you can find - from the host to the location to the amenities. My dog has never been happier than the time she spent on the island. Recommend this stay to everyone.
An absolute gem near Portland, yet a world away! I've stayed here twice at two different sites (the A-Frame that I'm reviewing now) and the Nautilus. Both were downright some of the best days I've ever had. The island is so lovingly cared for, Kent (the host) is so attentive, and everything about the experience is beyond 5-stars. It's easy to leave the hustle behind and relax on the island -- and every detail is taken care of by Kent. In the sea of commercial, soulless Airbnb's, the Big Sustainable Island really stands out above the rest. Thank you, Kent!
We loved the A Frame at 1 Big Sustainable Island! There is only one other Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in that I can say, like this one, “I can’t wait to come back!” The nature is gorgeous, the kayaks and canoes and rope swing are tons of fun, and the peace of the island is off the charts. The host, Kent, can accommodate just about anything and wants to make sure you have a great stay. I’m a city girl but even I loved the “glamping” type of experience, with every creature comfort you could possibly need, even without electricity! The composting toilets and hand crank shower are amazing systems for having to build & operate them on a little lake island. This was the ideal anniversary getaway for city-livers like myself and my partner; we can’t wait to return and swim, grill, and enjoy the smell of evergreens. <br/>My only note! Pack some tissues! Nobody wants to run back and forth down the trail to the bathroom to get some toilet paper.
This was an amazing stay. So peaceful, beautiful nature, and Kent was awesome in helping out with everything I needed. Highly recommend for some peace of mind and quiet.
Exceeded our already high expectations!
Staying on the island was wonderful. Having a personal dock to swim, kayaks, and all kitchen utensils/tools supplied made this trip stress free and peaceful.
Kent and his crew were so helpful with all aspects from arriving at the parking area to the Ferry ride to the island and settling in at the A Frame Stay. Very responsive for requests for additional Ice packs batteries for the small fan, light and power pack for charging devices. Outdoor kitchen under the Gazebo was awesome. Clean dishes, pots, pans and pleanty of drinking water. Be vigilante of the Red Squirrels. Dont leave anything out like food or other items. I found they have a tast for phone charging cords. Fishing was awesome off the dock. We cought around 20 White Perch 6 Crappy. Took a canoe out and explored around the Island. Our dog Winni Mae jumped out at the Public Beach so we decided to hang out for a while. Some time later Kent and his crew showed up with rocks for the shore bank and placed them by hand for erosion control. We helped them place the floting dock from the shore to its summer home. Can't wait to come back. Thank You so much. Steph, Joe and Winni Mae.
What an AWESOME place to retreat to from the city!! Sunsets and sunrises are incredible. All other sites on the island are private and spread out, didn’t really see anyone else who was staying in other spots. Kent was the best AirBnb host I’ve ever had - so helpful, kind, and welcoming. Bathrooms were kept very clean. Everything was perfect!
