The Island A-Frame is a gentle reminder that enough really is enough. Enough comfort, enough nature, enough quiet, and enough adventure to leave you feeling full instead of fried. Tucked into a wooded corner of 1 Big Sustainable Island, this cozy A-frame invites you to slow down: sleep deeply, cook simple meals, sway in a hammock, warm yourself by the woodstove, and listen as loons and crackling fires take turns filling the air.

A wonderful chance to get away. Kent has things set up perfectly so you can enjoy the simplicity of an electricity-free trip while still feeling like you have everything you need for an enjoyable time. Can't wait to visit again!
The stay on 1BSI was like no other. The intention behind everything is very clear. Kent does a fantastic job at making you feel comfortable, and is truly willing to help you with whatever you may need. Don’t skip this stay, it’s amazing!
What an adventure! The A Frame was perfect for me, my husband, and our dog. The outdoor kitchen was really fun to cook in and we spent hours at the fire pit. We canoed, saw a bald eagle, made a clay pot out of the clay deposits you can find at Lion Point, and took a nice swim! Lots of walks, too. A beautiful place.
Kent’s island and the A frame were an amazingly unique and memorable experience. We were incredibly impressed with the ways in which Kent had figured out how to make the island and it’s facilities sustainable yet still very convenient and accommodating. We truly had everything we needed and he went above and beyond to make our stay as relaxing and stress free as possible. Star gazing at night, watching the sunset over Annabessacook, canoeing/kayaking adventures during the day and cooking by the fire at night provided us with an extremely fulfilling and relaxing escape from our day to day lives. Didn’t miss the electricity at all!
Great Adventure. unique and one of a kind stay. Highly recommend a 2-3 night stay. 1 day is not enough time except to sleep; which worked for us and was an amazing night sleep with the windows open in August. Kent does a great job helping his dog Sky host the island. lol. If you go you'll know.
I can not say enough about how wonderful our stay was on the island. My boyfriend, and our two kids (6yrs, and almost 4yrs), and myself, stayed for 3 nights, in the amazing A frame. We had everything we needed awaiting us. As well as anything else (battery for phone charge, extra wood, more water..) brought to us. The two amazing dogs, Sky and Shadow, were a special touch. They check in, keep you company, and just all around are amazing. Kent even made a special trip for a rope swing demonstration. We saw turtles, heard loons, took boat rides, found beautiful rocks, swam, and so much more. We can not wait to come back!!
What an awesome stay! We really appreciated the incredible hospitality from Kent. He has everything thought out really well. It was a perfect stay to just relax, sleep in the hammock, and enjoy a campfire. The A-frame cabin was adorable and comfy! We loved canoeing around the lake and exploring the island! Highly recommend grabbing a pie from Kitty (a few houses down the street) before parking your car. It was a delicious treat to eat throughout the weekend! Thanks to the Ackleys’s for a great stay- we will be back!!!
We stayed 3 nights in the A-Frame and had the best time! Peaceful, well-appointed, lots to do and explore. The beds are comfortable and the place was clean. Kent was very attentive, responsive and communicated frequently and clearly. Wonderful of the Ackleys to provide this spot for people to experience uncomplicated living. We felt very lucky to stay here and hope to return!!
Awesome host and place! Would recommend it to anyone if they have a chance to visit
Highly recommended! Our stay at the A-frame was fantastic. I wouldn't call it "glamping" -- if that is what you're going for then this might not be what you're looking for; it was more like "convenient & comfortable camping" -- all the best parts with few of the hassles. We spent most of our awake time outside, but the structure was lovely and clean, and a perfect escape from the rain. The lofted bed was super comfortable. The outdoor cooking area was well stocked with dishes, utensils, pots and pans. We used both the gas grill and the fire pit for cooking.<br/>But the main attraction is the location. The island is just magical. You feel like you are deep in the woods, but no bears to worry about! The lake is clear and calm, and wonderful for both sunrise and sunset swims. And Kent could not have been a better host -- kind, friendly, informative and incredibly responsive. We were only there for 3 nights but it was the kind of place you could easily imagine spending a week or more.
