Hammock Haven is tuned to Nature’s soundtrack — loons calling at dusk, water lapping beneath the dock, wind moving through the trees, and the occasional splash from someone giving in to the lake. From your island dome, you’ll fall asleep to these rhythms and wake as light skims across Annabessacook Lake. Days unfold to a steady beat: cooking simple meals, drifting in hammocks just above the water, paddling the shoreline, and wandering the wooded trails of our 14-acre island. No headphones required.

Kent at One Big Sustainable Island is awesome! If you want to try camping without the stress and headache of doing it all on your own, this is the place to go! Kent and his team has all the essentials for you waiting on the island and does a really good job educating you on what to expect and what you need to bring prior to your trip. Kent was super accommodating and flexible upon arrival and checked-in with me every day to make sure everything was running smoothly. At One Big Sustainable Island, fun activities are waiting for you already from kayaks to hiking to rope swings! I will certainly be back and will be recommending to others!
Kent was a great host and we had an amazing and peaceful time. We brought our dog and two paddle boards over on the ferry for two much needed nights of vacation. Would love to go back soon.
Everything was great. We had a fabulous time. Kent was wonderful. Extremely attentive to our every need. Only thing I would say is I thought it would be more stocked than it was with kitchen supplies. We struggled a little bit with that. More glasses, plates, silverware, cutting board, …that kind of stuff would be helpful. The beds were super comfortable. I typically have insomnia, but I slept like a log. And most important of all…the dog was extremely happy and contented!
Kent and Heather are the best Airbnb hosts I’ve ever had. I made a mistake checked into the wrong tent and they were so kind and helpful to get me back to the correct tent. My husband and I had a lovely stay. We had never been to Maine before but after the experience we had we’re absolutely coming back! What a wonderful stay we’re telling everyone about this island.
This was my second stay, and I loved every second of it. I will be coming back for sure!
Amazing experience, and amazing host! 10 starts!
Great find and made for a wonderful weekend getaway. Kent was responsive, polite, and provided everything we needed for a fun and relaxing weekend.
Awesome experience. Give stars across the board, except I gave four stars for accessibility, because hey! It's an island. You can canoe it, depending on wind as I found out the hard way. It is really preaching going to sleep too the sound of the loons.
It won't be for everyone. You are unplugged. Cell service is there, but no power on the island so set your expectations correctly.
Kent really wants this to be an amazing and unique experience, you can feel the love he has put into this place. My favorite thing of all: he has made the island free to the public during the day, not bc it will help his star ratings (it won't) but bc it was always open to the public when he was a kid and so he pays it forward. Bravo, Kent.
Will be back! So many people I want to show this place to.
This is a very special place. Kent has created a sanctuary for the ages. We canoed out to the island in 25 minutes and chose to take the ferry back on our departure day. Plenty of firewood, clean, drinking water. Mostly Kent made us feel comfortable by checking in periodically and making sure we had everything we needed.
The bird activity in the morning was remarkable. There were song, birds, all day and whippoorwills and loons at night, You will love staying here. We are already planning to come back.
A hidden gem! We had an amazing stay on the Big island and is the best place we have ever lived. Everything was perfect and Kent was quick to respond to my questions all the time. The tent was spotless and was provided with every amenity you can think of, plenty of drinking water, utensils, propane stove, unlimited fire wood etc. Every corner of the island is beautiful and you can spend hours just walking around and relaxing. Thanks Kent for your hard work building this amazing place and sharing it with us! We will definitely be revisiting here.
