The Oaktagon Tree House on 1 Big Sustainable Island is amazing! The whole island is so cool. The accommodations, trails, canoes, sunrises, sunsets, the peace and quiet of nature all in one package. Kent is a great host. From the ferry ride out to the ferry ride back in, he has everything thought out for you. All you have to do is relax and enjoy. It was well worth the trip from California and got our vacation off to a great start.
So glad this magical island is open to the public / renters are welcome. Don’t miss an opportunity to hike these clean trails or stay in one of the beautiful rentals.
Great place to get away. Everything was well planned and thought out. You are taken care of.
Beautiful and peaceful.
We loved our time on the island! We stayed with two other families the last week of July-which turned out to give us three days of very different weather. We loved going down to swim, fishing, and exploring the flora and the fauna. We appreciated how attentive Kent was to getting us ice, checking in on us, and teaching us about the island and the area. We got our fishing licenses and the guys spent many hours fishing anywhere they could. If you travel during these times in the future you may want a small portable fan. Our 1 year old especially loved any visits from the dogs. Upon returning to our home in Ohio, our 4 year old declared "I don't want to live at our house, I only want to live on the island!" Thank you for sharing this beautiful place!
Words don't describe how awesome 1 Big Sustainable Island is, and the people who run it. This fully sustainable 14 acre island was so relaxing and fun to stay at. We stayed in the A Frame and for four people it was an affordable escape. Some of the best parts: boat shuttle to the island by the owner who talked to you about the entire lakes history. The compostable toilets, rain barrel pump sinks and shower, are luxurious for camping and are actually truly sustainable (no greenwashing). Free firewood, canoes, and fresh water at your disposal. The trails around the island are fun and you definitely have to use the rope swing. Remember, when here to follow leave no trace and sustainability guidelines. Do not leave trash and respect all aspects of nature to keep this place wild and sustainable.
